Artist Matt W. Moore has completed a series of works he calls Crystals and Lasers for a month-long art project in Paris, France. Moore traveled to France without supplies, concepts or plans for his showing at the Since Gallery in Paris at the end of his stay. After taking in the character of Paris, its people and culture, the artist created a series of prints using little more than spray paint, tape and a steady hand. The resulting art is wildly colorful, bright and kaleidoscopic in nature– a collection of visual candy that make the rest of the world appear to be black-and-white. [matt w. moore via mymodernmix]

MichaelKate | I Am In Love Art Contest
MichaelKate Interiors and Art Gallery Presents
I am in LOVE
Art contest and open call to artists.
New Art Contest “I am in Love!” at MichaelKate Interiors and Gallery, Santa Barbara CA.
The idea for this art contest and exhibit is for “artists” and “interesting persons” to create and submit inventive, inspired, thought-provoking, work that deals with a re-working of the clichés of love. That could mean anything to you, the artists, so start now.
If your work is selected, you will be included in the “I am in Love” art show which will be on view through April 1st 2012, and you will have a chance to sell your work at the gallery. Work not sold will be returned to the artist. Also, we are making the event ever more exciting by offering prizes in MKI credit for first, second and third place. ($1,000, $500., $250.).
Finally, there will be a celebratory opening reception night that you are invited to on Friday Feb 10th, (early) from 5 - 7p it’s the “buyers preview” a less crowded opportunity to see all the work, then from 7 - 11p, it’s the famous MichaelKate, art party. This is number six in the “not-to-miss-art party” series, with music, art, friends and a no host bar provided by our pals from the Mercury Lounge.
Artists, can submit up to 5 pieces each (there is a submission fee that goes towards hosting the event, hiring the band, and making it all happen, so thanks in advance for that).
There will be up to sixty pieces accepted for this show and this is a great opportunity to be part of a new emerging art community here in invincible Santa Barbara. (No xenophobic attitude, outsiders and global submissions very welcome).
We are very excited about our judge for this event.
Jill Finstin, Judge. Director of Special Projects/Study of Art and Culture at Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
Start now, start creating.
Art must be submitted by 6pm, Monday January 30th, 2012
Visit link below for more information and submission details:

Guns To Plowshares
This is art on a truly biblical scale. Mexican artist Pedro Reyes moved to make a social statement against the dangerous drug war being waged in Mexico, specifically the city of Culiacán with it’s high fatality rate from gun fire. The Weapons to Plowshares project, or Palas por Pistolas en Espanol, worked to gather over 1,500 firearms from the local public. This collection of handguns and high-powered rifles were steamrolled, smelted and refined to be born again as shovels for a new life to serve the public. These 1,500 guns became plowshares where citizens across the city, in public parks and school yards, planted 1,500 trees to match the demands of death that the weapons before them left. This act of art is a true act of peace that everyone, regardless of religion, cannot help but admire. In our eyes, this is art that truly matters…
Deadmeat Tour | Steve Aoki x Datsik
Steve Aoki and Datsik's North American Dead Meat Tour made it's inaugural stop in Santa Barbara this past weekend at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. The completely sold out show lived up to it's billing as the entire room shook to the wobble wobble of Datsik's set and the party anthems of Steve Aoki! Santa Barbara, looks like you handled it, and handled it well! Check out all the photos below.
